“Winter Campfire, 2am”

This is an instrumental tune I wrote for my big brother Mike's birthday – using the idea of sitting around a late-night campfire, watching it coldly flicker out, and letting the wanderings of your sleepy brain drift from one musing to the next.

Mike put a way of seeing MUSIC into my young heart. Through watching Mike's interest in Lead Belly, to Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, up through Dylan and beyond... it helped engender my own personal model, creatively, of: first, looking BACK, studiously, so that you can better proceed FORWARD, armed with a full head of steam.

Here are all the instruments I played on the recording:

• acoustic guitar
• ukulele
• upright bass
• banjo
• glockenspiel
• clarinet
• melodica
